Madras High Court Grants Bail to Final Accused in Tamil Nadu Horse‑Trading Scandal
On 7 August, the Madras High Court released Krishna on bail, bringing the total number of accused freed in the horse‑trading case to 14. The case concerns allegations that a group used horse‑trading to influence DMK MLA Ilaiyaraja of the Uthangarai constituency. Triplicane Police had earlier arrested the 14 individuals on these charges.
Former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar had already obtained anticipatory bail. The court also stayed the hearing of another anticipatory bail petition until 1 September, ordered that no harsh action be taken against the petitioner in the meantime, and relaxed bail conditions for two other accused. Additionally, the court halted the Triplicane Police investigation into the matter.
