Madras High Court grants bail to fourth accused in Kavin honour killing case

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has granted conditional bail to Jeyapaul, the fourth accused in the July 2025 honour killing of Kavin Selva Ganesh in Tirunelveli. Justice S Karthikeyan granted the release citing the anticipated delay in the trial, noting that the prosecution intends to examine 70 witnesses and has collected 37 documents.

The court observed that the allegations against Jeyapaul involve intimidation and aiding in the concealment of evidence rather than the murder itself. While the court declined to quash the case against him, it noted that charges had previously been quashed for two other co-accused.

Jeyapaul, who has been in custody since August 13, 2025, must adhere to stringent conditions. He is prohibited from entering the village where the crime occurred and must not contact the complainant, whether directly or electronically. Additionally, he is required to report to the trial court twice daily at 10:30 am and 5:30 pm. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of his bail.
