Madras High Court handles legal cases involving DMK leadership

The Madras High Court is presiding over two distinct legal matters involving the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party and its leadership.

In a corruption investigation, former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi sought to quash a case involving allegations that ₹100 crore was illegally collected to secure recognition for private schools. During the hearing, the court questioned the DMK’s decision to invoke the Governor’s authority to challenge the case, noting the party’s previous criticisms of the Governor’s office. The matter has been adjourned to October 29.

Separately, the High Court has temporarily halted the numbering of a ₹1 crore defamation suit filed by the DMK. The suit targets Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar and the IT wing of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The delay follows appeals by Nirmal Kumar and the TVK IT wing challenging the initial permission granted to the DMK to institute the suit.
