Madras High Court orders report on private bus fare hikes

The Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to file a report within four weeks regarding the actions taken following a high-level committee meeting on private bus fare increases.

Private bus owners had petitioned the state government to raise fares in response to rising diesel prices and increased vehicle maintenance costs. While officials held a consultative meeting with the private bus owners' association on September 17, no formal action has been implemented since.

The government's counsel informed the court that recommendations made during the meeting have been forwarded to the Transport Minister for review. Following the minister's assessment, the matter will be brought to the Chief Minister for a final decision.
