Madras High Court permits Vinayagar idol installation in Tirupur

The Madras High Court has ruled that worship is a fundamental right, directing the Tirupur district police to permit the installation of a Vinayagar idol in Yasin Babu Nagar. The decision follows a petition by the Hindu Munnani seeking permission for idol installation and processions during Vinayagar Chathurthi celebrations. While government counsel raised concerns regarding the location's demographics and proximity to mosques, a suitable spot was identified following a joint inspection by the petitioner and police officials.

Concurrently, the Hindu Munnani is preparing for large-scale Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations across Tamil Nadu, planning idol installations at approximately 1.5 lakh locations. In Chennai alone, over 5,500 locations are proposed. The organization has issued guidance to local units to manage processions orderly to minimize public disruption and has emphasized environmental protection by encouraging the use of natural, non-polluting materials for the idols.
