Tongi madrasa teacher arrested over child abuse allegations

A teacher at Qariul Quran International Madrasa in Tongi, Gazipur, has been arrested and denied bail following allegations of sexually abusing a young student. The accused, identified as Moslem Ahmed, is facing charges under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The incident has led to conflicting legal actions. The child’s family filed the initial complaint, while the madrasa administration has filed a counter-case. The institution alleges that a group of individuals entered the premises, assaulted staff, and looted 1.7 million BDT intended for land purchases. The madrasa principal claimed the accused is a part-time teacher and that the incident was used as a pretext for a planned attack.

Local police have assured a fair and neutral investigation into both cases. The incident has sparked significant social media debate, with some public figures expressing support for the child's family during their protest.
