Madre Vieja Norte residents demand solutions to chronic flooding

Residents of Juan Roche Street in Madre Vieja Norte, San Cristóbal, are demanding urgent government intervention to address chronic flooding caused by inadequate drainage systems. Community members reported that even brief periods of rainfall cause water to enter homes, damaging personal belongings, food supplies, and property.

Juan Pablo Matías Vizcaíno, president of the Juan Roche Neighborhood Association, stated that the community has been requesting solutions for years. He noted a lack of both sanitary and storm drainage in the area, which causes water to accumulate in a dead end on their street. While Wellington Arnaud, director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA), has visited the area previously, residents claim that no concrete actions have been taken following his visits.
