Madres Buscadoras de Sonora find human remains on Highway 26

The Madres Buscadoras de Sonora collective discovered two human skulls and various skeletal remains in a private property located at kilometer 26 of Highway 26, a route connecting Hermosillo to the coast. The findings occurred during search operations on September 19 and 20, 2026.

On the first day, searchers found a skull alongside skeletal remains and a beige casual short. The following day, a second skull was located with other remains and a blue checkered short. The area is frequently visited by search collectives due to the high incidence of clandestine graves.

Authorities from the Sonora State Attorney General's Office (FGJE) have been unable to immediately recover the remains because the site is private property. Officials stated that a search warrant is required to legally enter the premises and conduct the necessary forensic procedures.
