Madres Luna collective occupies prosecutor offices in Veracruz
Members of the Madres Luna collective have occupied the specialized prosecutor's offices for missing persons in Orizaba and Córdoba, Veracruz. The protest, which began on October 1, is intended to continue indefinitely until the collective receives a direct response from the State Attorney General.
Key demands include the reinstatement of the ministerial commander in charge of missing persons investigations in the area. The collective argues that a change in leadership would force new investigators to restart reviews of existing case files, causing further delays. They also cited a significant backlog, noting there are more than 200 active case files covering the Orizaba, Córdoba, Ciudad Mendoza, and Nogales regions.
Representative Marcela Zurita highlighted critical resource shortages, stating that Córdoba and Orizaba have only about four police officers each dedicated to these cases. The collective is calling for an increase in the number of prosecutors, specialized personnel, and dedicated investigation teams to address the investigative delays and the lack of direct dialogue with the State Attorney General.
