Madrid A-5 highway facing major traffic closure for tunnel connection

A major phase of the A-5 highway undergrounding project is approaching, which will involve a total traffic closure in both directions to connect the new tunnel with the M-30 ring road. This intervention will significantly impact commuters traveling between Madrid and southwestern municipalities, particularly Alcorcón.

The Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid are preparing special mobility measures to mitigate the disruption. Proposed alternatives include diverting traffic via the M-40 and enhancing public transport options. Coordination meetings are being held with the Regional Transport Consortium, the Municipal Transport Company (EMT), and Cercanías to finalize the plan. While the exact dates and duration of the closure are pending confirmation, this work represents one of the final major steps before the new infrastructure enters service.
