Madrid airport arrest involves alleged former Venezuelan official with 50kg of cocaine

An alleged former Venezuelan diplomatic official has been arrested at Madrid-Barajas Airport after authorities discovered 50 kilograms of cocaine hidden in his luggage. The incident occurred on September 8.

Investigators are examining whether this was an isolated event or part of a recurring pattern, as authorities suspect the individual may have used similar methods to smuggle drugs into Spain previously. The case is currently being handled by the courts in Plaza de Castilla to determine the suspect's methods, potential accomplices, and the full scope of the operation.

Following the arrest, officials from the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Spain were summoned to testify. While some initial reports suggested the suspect held the position of consul, the embassy clarified that the individual is a former official who has not held any position related to the mission for two years.
