Madrid and Albacete municipalities criticized for limited summer sports camp capacity

Family associations in Madrid's Vallecas district say the municipal summer sports program for 2026 offers only 13,800 places, covering just about 5% of the 268,000 children aged 3‑12 in the city. They argue the limited slots and short registration periods leave many families without public options, forcing them to seek costly private camps.

In Albacete, the municipal sports department has opened registration for approximately 4,000 places in a summer programme that includes swimming, tennis, football and other disciplines. Registrations began on 16 June and are available online and through local offices, aiming to provide physical activity opportunities for children and adults through June to August.
