Madrid and Catalonia lead Spain in AI job exposure
A report by BBVA Research indicates that the regions of Madrid and Catalonia have the highest concentration of workers in occupations highly exposed to generative artificial intelligence (AI). In contrast, Extremadura and Murcia show the lowest levels of exposure.
According to experts Rafael Doménech and Juan Ramón García, the impact of AI on employment will not be uniform. While the technology offers opportunities to boost productivity, its net effect on jobs will depend on adoption rates, regulations, business organization, and workforce skills.
Exposure is notably higher among administrative, financial, IT, and professional roles, whereas manual labor in construction and the primary sector remains less affected. The data shows a significant educational divide: over 40% of workers with higher education are in high-exposure occupations, compared to only 15% of those with secondary education or less. Additionally, the 25 to 34 age group exhibits the highest average exposure to AI tools.
