Madrid and Cáceres regions advance student transport subsidies and housing proposals

The Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) has sent a letter to all Spanish autonomous communities proposing cooperation agreements that would allow students from other regions studying in the capital to keep access to subsidised public‑transport cards. The proposal, presented by CRTM manager Pablo Rodríguez Sardinero, seeks to replicate existing arrangements such as the one with Castilla‑La Mancha and includes a draft legal‑economic framework for rapid implementation.

In Extremadura, the Assembly debated a plan to repurpose unused residential spaces at the historic Universidad Laboral in Cáceres for university students. Deputies from Unidas por Extremadura, led by Nerea Fernández, argued that the region’s severe housing shortage and high rent burden threaten university access, and urged the regional government to amend regulations so that vacant beds can be allocated to university students, complementing a €20 million investment to refurbish the site.
