Madrid approves urban planning reforms and long-term transport study

The Government of the Community of Madrid has approved the Ley LIDER (Impulso y Desarrollo Equilibrado en la Región) project to streamline urban development. This new law aims to reduce urban planning processing times from approximately twelve years to roughly four years. The legislation will repeal previous land and territorial policy laws, simplifying land classification into three categories: urbanized, protected rural, and non-protected rural.

In addition to housing and land reforms, the regional government has authorized a 791,000 euro study to develop the Strategic Plan for Collective Transport Infrastructure and Services for 2027–2042. This 30-month study will map out the evolution of public transport over the next 15 years, including potential Metro expansions, bus line evolutions, and interurban connections to accommodate population growth and new urban developments.
