Madrid authorities announce aid and memorial for Adamuz accident victims

Authorities in Madrid are initiating support measures for the victims of the Adamuz high-speed rail accident, which occurred on January 18, 2026, leaving 46 people dead and over 100 injured.

Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida announced that the City Council is evaluating economic aid, psychological support, and logistical assistance for the Adamuz Victims Association. The Mayor also committed to providing a central municipal venue for the association's general assembly scheduled for November.

Additionally, the Community of Madrid has approved the construction of a monument to honor the victims. The memorial, a monolith located near the Atocha station between the Museum of Anthropology and Ciudad de Barcelona Avenue, is expected to be inaugurated in January 2027 to coincide with the first anniversary of the tragedy.
