Madrid begins vertical‑garden installation on the M‑30 at Ventas

The Madrid City Council, through its municipal enterprise Madrid Calle 30, started work in July 2026 to install new vertical gardens on the M‑30 ring road at the Ventas interchange. The project will add 2,834 m² of vegetation along a 400‑metre stretch, using more than 30 drought‑tolerant Mediterranean species and semi‑hydroponic modules that are fixed to existing concrete structures.

The gardens will be equipped with an automated irrigation system that recycles water from the Canal de Isabel II and a meteorological station that adjusts watering based on temperature and humidity. The works, scheduled to finish in early 2027, are being carried out mainly at night to minimise traffic disruption and represent an investment of €5.3 million. This installation follows earlier M‑30 vertical gardens and will bring the total green surface on the highway to over 6,500 m², helping to filter air pollutants and improve the urban environment.
