Madrid celebrates Fiestas de la Paloma with music and tradition

The Fiestas de la Paloma, one of Madrid’s most traditional summer celebrations, is taking place from Thursday, August 13, through Sunday, August 16. Centered in the La Latina neighborhood, the festivities include events in Las Vistillas, Plaza de la Paja, and various streets such as Calatrava and Cava Baja.

The program features a mix of musical concerts, traditional dances, and religious ceremonies. Musical acts include Celtas Cortos, DePol, and Miss Caffeina. Key religious events include the floral offering and the traditional descent of the Virgin’s image by the Madrid Firefighters on Saturday.

Traditional customs are also highlighted, such as the ‘chocolatada’ on Calatrava Street, sack races, and the consumption of local staples like lemonade and vermouth. Cultural activities range from chotis competitions and organillo exhibitions to children's workshops and zarzuela performances at the Teatro La Latina.
