Madrid celebrates urban identity through street art and iconic neon
Madrid is seeing various cultural initiatives aimed at celebrating its urban identity and visual heritage. In the Moratalaz district, the Municipal Board has launched the ‘Muraltalaz’ initiative, which uses urban art to decorate the walls of public buildings. This project involves artists from around the world and represents a shift in how the city views graffiti, moving from a penalized activity to a recognized form of municipal art.
Additionally, Suntory Beverage & Food Iberia has introduced ‘Bajo el Neón de Schweppes’, a cultural project dedicated to the iconic Schweppes neon sign atop the Edificio Carrión on Gran Vía. The initiative, inaugurated at the Cine Capitolen, explores the sign's role as a symbol of Madrid's visual and emotional landscape through discussions involving experts in architecture, history, and design.
