Madrid council approves 974 security and emergency job openings

The City Council of Madrid approved an employment offer for 974 new positions in municipal security and emergency services. The plan allocates 759 vacancies for open competition and 215 for internal promotion. The breakdown includes 448 posts for the Municipal Police, 195 for the Fire Brigade (185 specialist firefighters and 10 specialist drivers) and 116 for SAMUR‑Protection Civil (24 emergency physicians, 22 nurses and 70 ambulance technicians).

The recruitment is part of the city’s “Plan 10 000”, which aims to raise staffing in these three bodies to 10,000 by 2027. The council’s decision was taken on 17 July 2026 and was negotiated with the unions UGT and CC‑OO. Internal promotion slots focus mainly on the fire service (193 promotions), with smaller numbers for SAMUR (13) and the police (9). Candidates must meet standard eligibility requirements, including Spanish or EU citizenship, age, clean criminal record and appropriate academic qualifications.
