Madrid drives push to host Formula 1 Grand Prix and become motorsport tourism hub

The RACE foundation, together with the FIA and UN World Tourism Organization, is organising the inaugural Madrid World Motorsport Tourism Congress on 15‑16 June at the Jarama circuit. The event seeks to position Madrid as the global capital of mobility and motorsport, leveraging a planned Formula 1 race, Formula E events and the European Truck Championship. Organisers highlight that motorsport tourism generates over €5 billion annually and can attract investment, visitors and major international events.

Parallel to the congress, IFEMA Madrid – a 200,000 m² exhibition complex jointly owned by the Community of Madrid, the city council, the Chamber of Commerce and Fundación Montemadrid – is providing the logistical backbone for a new Spanish Grand Prix. Construction began in April 2025, with work on the La Monumental corner and Valdebebas sector progressing toward a 2026 race. IFEMA’s existing infrastructure, digital connectivity and operational expertise are intended to lower costs and ensure the venue can host the race while maintaining its regular exhibition activities.
