The District 2026 real estate summit opens in Madrid

The fifth edition of The District 2026, a major European real estate event, has opened at IFEMA Madrid. The summit is expected to generate an economic impact of over 42 million euros for the city, gathering more than 20,000 industry leaders and professionals.

Key topics on the agenda include affordable housing, data centers, logistics, retail, and office assets. The event also addresses the mobilization of land, financing, and institutional capital to increase residential supply, alongside the influence of artificial intelligence and sustainability on the sector.

During the inauguration, Madrid Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz stated that the city views the real estate sector as an ally rather than an enemy, highlighting Madrid's role as a major destination for international investment. However, the event faced disruption when activists interrupted the opening ceremony, throwing leaflets and stink bombs to protest against vulture funds and the perceived displacement of residents due to real estate speculation.
