Madrid epidemic outbreaks rose 4.5% in 2025

Epidemic outbreaks in the Community of Madrid increased by 4.5% in 2025, totaling 442 episodes. While the overall number of associated cases fell by 28.4% to 7,196, influenza significantly impacted the data, with associated cases and hospitalizations both increasing nearly sixfold compared to the previous year.

Data from the Directorate General of Public Health indicates that hospital admissions rose by 149.6% to 574, and 26 deaths were recorded. Outbreaks related to collective settings, such as restaurants and institutions, accounted for 81.9% of the total. Conversely, family or private environment outbreaks grew by 48.1% to 80 episodes.

Non-food related acute gastroenteritis (GEA) was the most frequent type of outbreak, totaling 121 episodes, though this represented a 20.4% decrease from the previous year.
