Madrid residents protest Formula 1 noise impact

Residents in the Hortaleza and Barajas districts of Madrid are mobilizing against the noise levels expected during the upcoming Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix at the Ifema circuit. Neighborhood associations are organizing demonstrations to protest the event, citing concerns over legal noise limits and the commercialization of their district.

A master's study by environmental engineering student Iván Ruiz Coello estimates that approximately 14,000 residents will be exposed to noise levels exceeding legal limits during the race. The study indicates that while the base noise level affects about 6.8% of the analyzed population, the operation of the circuit could increase the number of people exposed to levels above 58 decibels to 17% of the population, effectively doubling the surface area affected by high noise levels.
