Madrid government awards design contract for Real Casa de Correos renovation without public tender
The Community of Madrid awarded a contract worth €59,377.73 to Pombo Estudio S.L., led by interior designer Alejandra Pombo, to prepare the design, drafting, licensing assistance and supervision for the reform of the historic Real Casa de Correos, which houses the regional presidency. The contract was granted without a public tender, justified by the authorities as a “unique artistic act” due to the building’s cultural status.
The full renovation is estimated at about €1.65 million and will cover interior courtyards on the ground floor and part of the second floor, affecting roughly 1,800 m². The work is planned over 19 months – three months for the design phase, four months for licensing and tender procedures, and twelve months for execution. The regional government, led by President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, previously purchased a €6.3 million penthouse in Chamberí, claiming it would serve as a temporary office while the Casa de Correos is under renovation.
