Madrid hospitals implement new support measures for pediatric patients

Hospitals in Madrid are implementing new initiatives to improve the emotional well-being of pediatric patients during medical treatments.

At the Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús, a startup called Newlittle is using artificial intelligence to create personalized therapeutic stories. The platform allows children to integrate photos of their toys or pets into illustrated tales, helping them process difficult medical experiences such as chemotherapy, surgeries, and various clinical procedures through familiar objects.

Separately, the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón has introduced a new protocol to reduce anxiety in children facing surgery. Under this initiative, parents are permitted to accompany their children into the operating room during the induction of anesthesia, staying with them until they fall asleep. This measure aims to minimize the emotional impact of separation and provide a sense of security for the minor.
