Madrid housing protests and Plaza España inauguration

In Madrid, hundreds of people participated in a peaceful march organized by the Sindicato de Inquilinas to honor Maricarmen, who passed away following an eviction. The procession moved from Puerta del Sol toward the home where she lived for 71 years. Protesters used banners to highlight the link between evictions and recent deaths, including that of a woman in Barcelona, framing the issue as a struggle for housing rights.

In Argentina, Plaza España was inaugurated on October 12 following debates regarding the preservation of the Monument to Argentine-Spanish Fraternity. Despite concerns from architectural and heritage groups about potential demolition, the monument by Heberto Washington Andrade and Carlos Walter Butin will remain in place. The opening event included protocol ceremonies with the Spanish Ambassador and local officials, followed by cultural performances from various regional Spanish centers.
