Madrid invests 36.9 million euros in pedestrian infrastructure

The Madrid City Council has approved two new contracts totaling 36.9 million euros to ensure the maintenance, inspection, and conservation of the city's pedestrian crossings and road structures. These contracts are set to begin on January 15, 2027, following the expiration of current agreements.

The first contract, valued at 32.9 million euros for a three-year period, focuses on incident resolution, emergency response, routine inspections, and both preventive and corrective maintenance. This covers pedestrian and vehicle overpasses, underpasses, structural walls, stairs, ramps, and other municipal road structures, though it excludes centralized tunnels and historical heritage sites.

The service is divided into two geographic zones: a northern zone and a southern zone. A second contract, worth 4 million euros, will provide specialized engineering technical assistance. This includes diagnostics, reports, and supervision to ensure the correct execution of conservation works. Both contracts will last 36 months, with the possibility of extensions up to 60 months.
