Madrid judge grants absolute disability to pediatrician due to long COVID

A judge in Madrid has granted absolute permanent disability to a pediatrician after long COVID aggravated her existing medical conditions. While the physician previously held a total permanent disability limited to her specific medical profession, the recent diagnosis of long COVID worsened her clinical state.

According to the ruling by Magistrate Beatriz Prestel, the patient suffers from neuropathy, tachycardia syndromes, and postural alterations affecting urinary, cardiac, neurological, and digestive functions. Medical reports indicated that these complications prevent frequent contact with others and hinder tasks requiring sustained concentration or prolonged walking.

The court determined that these limitations prevent her from performing not only her duties as a pediatrician but also any other form of employment, including sedentary roles. The ruling noted that while absolute certainty of irreversibility is not required, there must be a ‘serious foresight of irreversibility’ regarding the pathologies.
