Madrid launches 800 free summer training slots for youth

The Madrid City Council is offering 800 free training places this summer under the "Verano Joven 2026" campaign. The programme targets people aged 16 to 30 and aims to improve employability and facilitate access to the labour market.

Delegated of Social Policies José Fernández visited the water‑fitness instructor course at the M‑86 swimming centre in the Retiro district, where 25 young people are enrolled. The 50‑hour course consists of 40 hours of theory and 10 hours of supervised practical training, leading to a certification that can qualify participants for jobs such as pool monitor or lifeguard.

Overall, the council plans to provide 2,670 training slots across spring, summer and autumn in fields ranging from aquatic fitness and rescue to pool maintenance, pilates, kayaking and volleyball. Courses combine practical and theoretical instruction, are often intensive and run during vacation periods so they can be combined with studies, and aim to promote personal development and socialisation among Madrid’s youth.
