Madrid legal associations defend Ceuta and Melilla

The Madrid Interprofessional Union (UICM) and the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) have issued an institutional manifesto in support of the Spanish cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The organizations assert that both cities are an “indisputable part of Spain” and should not be treated as a “constitutional periphery” or a secondary issue.

The manifesto calls for increased institutional involvement to address the migration, security, and social challenges facing the cities. It emphasizes that border control must be conducted within the framework of the law, rejecting the idea that there is a conflict between police efficacy and legal guarantees. The organizations argue that a strong democracy requires both authority and the protection of fundamental rights.

Additionally, the document expresses solidarity with the residents of Ceuta and Melilla and recognizes the work of security forces, healthcare professionals, and public officials serving in the region. The UICM has committed to strengthening cooperation with professional associations in both cities to promote joint initiatives.
