Madrid mayor predicts Spain 2-0 win over Argentina in World Cup final

Madrid’s mayor, José Luis Martínez‑Almeida, said he is convinced the Spanish national team will defeat Argentina 2‑0 in the upcoming World Cup final. In an interview with Onda Cero he stressed Spain’s technical superiority, noting, "Somos mejores futbolistas que Argentina, pero Argentina lógicamente tiene otro propósito y un estilo muy complicado".

Almeida also called on citizens to behave responsibly as crowds gather to watch the match, and he announced plans for a large public screen in Plaza de Colón, where he hopes families will gather. He mentioned his wife’s opinion on the venue, recalled watching the Euro 2020 final there, and spoke of his son Lucas potentially attending. Should Spain win, the mayor expects a celebration at Plaza de Cibeles the following day.

His comments framed the final as a duel of styles, asserting that whichever side imposes its game plan will "llevar el gato al agua" and secure the trophy.
