Madrid Metro Line 11 expansion: Mayrit machine exceeds 2.5km of tunneling

The expansion of Madrid Metro's Line 11 is progressing with the tunnel boring machine, Mayrit, operating 24/7. Since beginning its route on March 26, the machine has excavated more than 2,500 meters of tunnel.

Key technical achievements include the installation of approximately 1,500 concrete rings for structural lining and the removal of over 170,000 cubic meters of earth. The next major milestone for the project is the 'cale' at the future Palos de la Frontera station, a process where two independent excavation fronts meet underground.

The project aims to establish Line 11 as a major diagonal axis for the region's mobility network. The operation involves continuous shifts of engineers, operators, mechanics, and specialists to ensure safety and technical precision while working beneath existing urban infrastructure.
