Madrid officials defend economic value of Formula 1 Grand Prix

Madrid officials are defending the economic and global benefits of hosting the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, scheduled for September 11–13. Jorge Rodrigo, the regional Minister for Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, stated that the event will provide significant profitability and international positioning for the region. He urged residents to accept a small amount of inconvenience, noting the event lasts only one weekend.

To address concerns regarding noise levels—which the group Stop Formula 1 Madrid reported reaching peaks of 109.1 dBA during F3 testing—officials have announced mitigation strategies. Borja Carabante, the Delegate for Urbanism, Mobility, and Environment, confirmed the circuit will utilize acoustic screens and natural barriers to reduce sound disturbance.

Regarding logistics, the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) has approved a reinforcement plan to manage access to the Ifema Madrid circuit. Officials are encouraging attendees to use public transportation to manage the influx of visitors.
