Rosario femicides: Carina Candelas killed by ex-partner in pharmacy
A wave of femicides has caused significant alarm in Rosario, Argentina, following the murder of 56-year-old Carina Andrea Candelas. Candelas, an employee at a Marketing Farm pharmacy, was attacked with a knife by her ex-partner, Martín Banchero, 55, in the store's warehouse. Security footage showed the attack lasted approximately two minutes. Banchero fled to his apartment, where he threatened to take his own life before being apprehended by police.
This incident marks the third femicide in Rosario within a two-week period. Previous victims include Débora Bordón, a sex worker killed on August 4, and Gabriela Banach, a trans activist found dead on August 11. The escalation of these violent crimes has prompted social organizations to demand a review of state protection mechanisms and the effectiveness of existing assistance programs for women at risk.
