Madrid court investigates luxury penthouse purchase by public company

A Madrid court is investigating the purchase of a luxury penthouse in the Chamberí district by Planifica Madrid, a public company belonging to the Community of Madrid. The property, valued at approximately 6.3 million euros, was reportedly acquired to serve as a temporary office for President Isabel Díaz Ayuso while renovations are conducted at the Real Casa de Correos.

The investigation, led by Court of Instruction number 8, follows five complaints, including those from the political party Iustitia Europa and the PSOE, which intends to participate as a private prosecutor. The legal inquiries are examining potential crimes of embezzlement, administrative malfeasance, and mismanagement of public assets.

In response to the controversy, the regional government announced that the penthouse is being placed on the market for a starting price of 6.7 million euros. The administration stated that the proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste region, which was recently devastated by forest fires.
