Madrid adds new public‑transport‑linked green trail in La Pedriza
The Community of Madrid has expanded its Rutas Verdes program with three new itineraries that promote environmentally friendly leisure by requiring public transport for access. One of the routes, La Vuelta al Yelmo in the La Pedriza mountain area, departs from the Plaza de Castilla intercity hub, linking city users directly to natural and cultural heritage sites.
Tourism information from the city highlights key attractions such as the Mirador Madrid observation deck, the historic centre around Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace, and the cultural corridor of the Paseo del Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen museums. These sites, together with the new green route, illustrate Madrid’s push to combine urban sightseeing with sustainable outdoor activities.
The initiative aims to encourage healthier, accessible recreation while reducing car traffic, offering visitors a structured way to explore both the capital’s landmarks and surrounding natural landscapes.
