Madrid protesters target Batsheva Dance Company and Netanyahu
Protests regarding the conflict in Gaza have taken place in Madrid, targeting both cultural performances and political leadership. Approximately 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the Teatros del Canal to protest a performance by Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company. Protesters displayed banners and called for a boycott of the company, with some participants shouting at audience members. Despite the demonstration, the performance proceeded and reportedly ended with a standing ovation. The protest included prominent figures such as Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato, who criticized the decision to host the company.
In a separate demonstration at the Museo Reina Sofía, the platform ‘Parar La Guerra’ launched a campaign titled ‘Netanyahu to the Criminal Court.’ Participants demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be held accountable by the International Criminal Court. The group issued a manifesto calling on political candidates to commit to international humanitarian law and to support the ICC in enforcing arrest warrants related to actions in Gaza. The event was attended by various political representatives, including MEP José Cepeda and local PSOE officials.
