Madrid region municipalities implement urban and social initiatives

Various municipal developments and social initiatives are underway across several cities in the Madrid region. In Alcorcón, residents and stakeholders are participating in the ‘Cosiendo Alcorcón’ initiative to discuss urban integration. The goal is to connect existing neighborhoods with the new Northern development, addressing mobility barriers created by the A-5 highway and the C-5 Cercanías line during the current General Urban Development Plan revision.

In Madrid, the City Council has allocated municipal plots in Hortaleza and Ciudad Lineal for ‘cohousing senior’ projects. These initiatives, involving 95 residential units, aim to combat loneliness and support active aging for the city's large elderly population. Projects include 55 units in Sanchinarro by Cooperativa La Colina and 40 units in Ciudad Lineal by Meridiano Uno.

Leganés is seeing both social and political activity. Retired taxi driver Matías Martínez has donated school supplies to local children through the Casa de Castilla-La Mancha. Meanwhile, Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco is addressing urban challenges, including plans for 650 affordable rental homes and the future of the municipal housing company, EMSULE.

In Fuenlabrada, the Municipal Archive is reopening to the public with guided tours. The program includes themed visits covering historical mysteries, such as crime and epidemics, as well as social history regarding childhood and local Christmas traditions.
