Madrid residents protest exclusion from Metro expansion

Residents of Las Águilas, Cuatro Vientos, and Buenavista are protesting the exclusion of their neighborhoods from the Madrid Metro expansion plans. Representing over 70,000 people, the Las Águilas Neighborhood Association and the Platform for the Southern Expansion of Line 11 are demanding the inclusion of the San Ignacio de Loyola, Avenida de la Aviación, and Buenavista stations.

Local groups note that these stops have been included in the Madrid General Urban Development Plan since 1997. The mobilization follows recent announcements by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, regarding 32 kilometers of new Metro lines targeting areas such as Las Tablas, Móstoles, and Leganés, which residents claim overlooks their specific connectivity needs.

To advance their cause, organizers have scheduled a demonstration for Sunday, October 4, and intend to bring the issue to the Latina Municipal Board to seek support from the Madrid City Council.
