Madrid Santero Sentenced for Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl
A Madrid court sentenced Venezuelan‑Italian santero Vicenzo E. P. to ten years in prison for repeatedly raping a 13‑year‑old Spanish girl between October 2021 and July 2022. The man, aged 30, presented himself as a babalawo of the Yoruba religion, claiming he would become her husband and giving her gifts such as a mobile phone, jewelry and a doll he said held protective spirits. Over nine months the victim was subjected to daily unprotected sexual acts, forced to record videos, and isolated from her family.
The victim, now 19, testified that the rituals ended with sexual intercourse and that she was manipulated and threatened. Her mother reported the abuse to the National Police’s cult‑watch unit, leading to the trial in the Audiencia Provincial de Madrid.
