Madrid seeks water concession from Sorbe River in Guadalajara

The Canal de Isabel II has requested a water concession from the Tajo Hydrographic Confederation to supply Madrid. The request seeks up to 50 million cubic meters per year from the Sorbe River, specifically from the Pozo de los Ramos dam at a rate of 8,000 liters per second.

Environmental groups, including Ecologistas en Acción and WWF, have filed objections to the proposal. They argue that the request could jeopardize the water supply for the Henares Corridor, which currently serves 400,000 people, and cause significant damage to protected habitats, such as riverbank forests and native fish populations including trout and colmilleja.
