Madrid to host 2027 FIRST Global international robotics olympiad
Madrid has been selected to host the 2027 FIRST Global Challenge, an international robotics olympiad for youth. Scheduled to take place from October 20 to 23, 2027, the event is expected to bring together more than 2,000 competitors aged 14 to 18 from 191 different countries.
In this competition, each participating nation is represented by a single official team. Participants must design, build, and program a robot from scratch to complete thematic missions centered on global challenges, such as environmental protection, forest fire prevention, or access to clean water.
The initiative is being organized in Spain by the Madrid-based TBC Agency through a commercial agreement with FIRST Global USA, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council. Local officials, including Marta Rivera de la Cruz and Ángel Niño, presented the event at the Museo de San Isidro, highlighting the competition's role in fostering interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young people.
