Madrid to implement Spain's first home pharmaceutical care regulation
The Community of Madrid is set to become the first region in Spain to regulate pharmaceutical care at home. The initiative, announced by Health Counselor Fátima Matute, aims to assist individuals with dependency issues or reduced mobility.
The proposed regulation will allow patients to receive both medications and sanitary products from local pharmacies and hospital services directly at their residences. To ensure safety, the service must be provided by qualified pharmaceutical professionals, maintaining the same controls as in-person pharmacy visits.
The new rules will establish requirements for 24/7 service availability, including the possibility of flexible, extraordinary hours for exceptional situations. Additionally, the regulation will cover the preparation of personalized dosage systems, specifically designed to help chronic or poly-medicated patients manage their treatments more effectively.
