Madrid transport cards have ten‑year expiry, users warned
The Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid (CRTM) confirmed that its physical transport cards have a limited lifespan. The personal public transport card (TTP) and the Multi card are valid for ten years from the date of issue, while the Blue card expires after five years. Ten‑trip tickets have no expiry, but monthly passes remain valid for thirty days from first use.
Users can check a card’s expiration date via the official “Tarjeta Transporte” app by scanning the card and selecting the information icon. Renewal of a personal card can be done up to two months before expiry at a cost of four euros, ensuring uninterrupted service.
The advice, shared by content creators “Mamá y Diego,” went viral after many commuters discovered the expiry dates for the first time.
