Madrid records historic June tourism surge from Bad Bunny concerts and Pope León XIV

The Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) reported that Madrid welcomed 884,881 international visitors in June, a 13.9% rise over the same month a year earlier, and recorded a total tourist spend of €1.86 billion, averaging €288 per visitor per day. Hotel occupancy reached near‑full levels, giving the capital its highest ever number of hotel guests for a June month.

During the same period, Puerto‑Rican singer Bad Bunny performed ten consecutive concerts at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano between 30 May and 15 June, attracting more than 630,000 (over 640,000 according to some estimates) attendees. Economic analyses attribute roughly €212 million of the June impact to the concerts.

Pope León XIV’s papal visit also took place in June, drawing more than 1.2 million participants to public events such as the Mass and Corpus Christi procession. The papal visit is estimated to have contributed about €74 million to the city’s economy.

Together, the concerts and the papal visit generated a combined economic impact of close to €300 million for the Community of Madrid, reinforcing tourism as a key driver of the region’s growth.
