Madrid's Gran Vía hosts new cultural tour exploring urban history
A new cultural tour titled ‘Neón Colosal de Schweppes: las historias por iluminar’ has been launched to explore the historical layers of Madrid’s Gran Vía. Guided by cultural journalist Eugenia Bugallal, the tour uses the iconic Schweppes neon sign on the Edificio Carrión as a starting point to uncover the architectural and human stories hidden behind the avenue’s famous facades.
The Schweppes sign, installed in 1972, was recognized as a historical sign by the City Council in 2010. The tour aims to move beyond the commercial image of the street to examine its urban transformation and the history of the buildings that define the landscape.
