Maduka Okoye misses Nigeria training sessions amid selection concerns

Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has reportedly missed opportunities to secure a starting position with the Super Eagles due to repeated tardiness. Okoye, who plays for Udinese, missed two training sessions after being granted permission by head coach Eric Chelle to spend extra days away from the camp.

His absence has reportedly altered the goalkeeper selection for the upcoming friendly against Russia. While Okoye was expected to feature in upcoming AFCON qualifiers, Stanley Nwabali is now expected to take the starting role, with Arthur Okonkwo serving as deputy. Sources indicate that teammates have expressed dissatisfaction with Okoye’s pattern of arriving late to camp, a behavior that previously led former coach Gernot Rohr to drop him from the squad.
