Madurai councilors face criticism as Maharashtra school faces food controversy

Separately, in Maharashtra, Tabovan School in Bhayandar East is under scrutiny following a controversy regarding food restrictions. A student was reportedly prohibited from eating fenugreek greens brought from home, with the school labeling it a “forbidden vegetable” in the student's diary. The school also charged the student 20 rupees for school canteen food. The restrictions appear linked to Jain religious observances during Paryushan, where certain root vegetables and plants are avoided. Previous complaints suggest students were fined for bringing items like onions and potatoes. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has filed a complaint, prompting education officials to issue a notice to the school administration for an explanation.
