Madurese community protests at Yogyakarta Police Headquarters

Hundreds of Madurese residents, organized under the Keluarga Madura Yogyakarta (KMY) and the Paguyuban Toko Kelontong Madura, held a peaceful protest at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters (Polresta Jogja) on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The demonstration concerns a legal case involving KMY officials following a report filed by a shop owner. The dispute stems from an internal agreement regarding distance requirements between grocery stores, an arrangement intended to prevent business competition and conflicts between Madurese entrepreneurs and local residents. The protesters are calling for the police to halt the legal proceedings, arguing that the criminal elements in the report are weak.

Coordinator Aan Hidayat stated that the group is entrusting the process to the police but demands that the investigation be handled with professionalism, transparency, and fairness. The protest included communal prayers at the police station mosque.
